March 2016 Adirondack Trek

In March, we rented a cabin at Massawepie Scout Camp. We hiked up Mt. Arab and traveled to the fire tower and fire watch cabin. The views were great! We could see neighboring mountains from miles away! The fire tower even had a map to identify the mountains you could see. The next day we hiked up the Porter and Cascade mountain peaks in the pouring rain. We ate lunch at the Porter overlook in the clouds! We learned how to use everyday items like sandwich bags to prevent hypothermia due to wet feet on the hike. Of course, after the long camp out, we took a “pit stop” at Pizza Hut!

October 2015 Civil War Reenactment Campout

Troop 277 camped overnight at Angelica, NY in the Allegheny County fairgrounds. We slept in historically accurate canvas tents that matched the time period. We watched reenactments of civil war battles throughout downtown Angelica and learned about the daily lives of soldiers. We received replica rifles and participated in our own battles. One of our scouts, James Haslip participated in the hypnotist show and was quite a “dancer.”
